In the release, however, that all changes with a more modern white background with starkly contrasting dark panels and more dramatic use of colour to tie related items and processes together.
According to Intuit, the use of contrast will help users to focus on what they need to do, the darker colours creating a strong hierarchy of zones to aid with workflow. Clutter has also been reduced, and the new look and feel applied consistently throughout the package. It certainly looks more modern and functional and, because the underlying workflows remain the same, shouldn't leave existing users scratching their heads searching for the tools they need.
The new look is obvious right from the start. Power up last year's QuickBooks , for example, you see something like this:.
With QuickBooks the same flowchart home screen is still displayed, but now it looks like this:. Notice also that, as well as the new colour scheme, the real-estate around the display has been moved around.
The row of navigational icons across the top is gone, with these shortcuts now arranged on a redesigned sidebar, located on the left rather than the right. The sidebar can be customised to create your own shortcuts, and also moved to the top of the display or made to disappear altogether to maximise the workspace. What you can't do, however, is fiddle with the colours.
What you see is what you get, with no choice of themes, no option to return to the previous GUI and no way of changing the typography other than to size the display through the Windows desktop preferences. Still, that's not necessarily a bad thing. One feature we we're not too sure of, though, is the What's New option in the Help menu which, when turned on, highlights the design changes and new options with unmissable yellow pointers. Better yet keep your old version and use ADP or Paychecks for payroll.
I won't be doing this again in three years. Quickbook Pro provides the tools necessary to effectively run your business. With Quickbooks you can pay your bills, hire subcontractors and submit s, customize and send invoices, sync your credit card and bank information and create a variety of business reports from Profit and Loss, and Customer Income to Balance Sheets.
As long as you have the information input into the system you can access information quarterly, last fiscal year, current fiscal year and much more. It has everything that you will need as a business owner. As a user of Quickbooks for over 10 years the tool has changed but despite its change it is still a great tool for managing my business. Each time I purchase a new version about every two years it takes a little time to adjust to the program but it is manageable.
I find that having this tool helps me to keep track of a lot of things that I use try to manipulate excel to create for me. Record keeping and tracking is crucial for me and I must be able to access information quickly. Having Quickbooks have saved me both time and money. Initially the cost can be a little expensive but overtime it pays for itself.
It is handy to have at your fingertips and Quickbooks allows you to acquire the information online which I personally have not used yet. If you are a business owner pick up a copy today to help streamline your business. I give this 3 stars because I'm still using it. I use this program to print invoices and balance my checkbook.
There's no improvements for me in this version, other than it works on Windows 8, and I can print and email invoices again. As usual, it's slower to load than all previous versions. I finally installed the fastest consumer ssd on the planet on my laptop , and my 2. Before that, it was taking a minute or more to load. Intuit's method of preventing multiple users from accessing the product introduced a new feature for single user versions.
The new feature randomly announces that you can't open a company file because it's in use by another user. This happens quite frequently and requires the program to be loaded at least once prior to the feature being enabled.
After the intial load, closing the program enables the random message. On subsequent loads you will randomly get the message. It's a clever feature that allows the user to become more familiar with handling program crashes. The only reason I bought this was because the previous version I used, qb , stopped handling pdf and email requests, and had issues with windows 8.
I have QB Pro currently and it's been warning me that I need to upgrade to by May 31 or "Quickbooks will no longer support add-on services like online backup. The first CD would not install the software after nearly two dozen attempts.
Finally gave up and returned it to Amazon, who immediately sent out a new product. Well, this CD isn't any better so I finally called Quickbooks on their website. He wanted to access my computer and download a version. He said he'd connect me to their customer service. After being on hold for nearly an hour, I finally hung up. I will take my chances to see if I can still e-mail my clients after May If not, I'll look for new software! Very sad, QB. Forced to update every two years by Intuit, company selling and designing Quickbooks.
Have been using this for my medical practice 23 years. Each updated version with more useless functions, that run slower with need to relearn how to do the same old things that were learned from previous version. Each new release has bugs and this version still does not work properly on Windows 7 and Windows XP machines.
Called Quickbooks for help at time of upgrade and they refused service unless paid for that service. Also have to pay for payroll services. Old version worked fine, forced to upgrade at my cost by Quickbooks then forced to pay for support to remove their bugs.
A year since last upgrade and have yet to have the software function better than prior versions. I still have to go to my bank web site outside the program to upload my statements. Therefore, one can click on the "Enter Bills" icon to create a new bill. There is then a line pointing downwards to the "Create Invoices" icon, and a second line pointing right to the "Pay Bills" icon. There is a logical process to the interface, so the user would enter the bill first, then click to pay the bill, rather than write the check which has a separate icon the reason for this is that the program will not know that the check being written for the same company applies to the bill already received from that company.
At the top of the interface is a menu system and some large toolbar buttons. However, much of the navigation is performed within the main area with the intersecting lines and action icons. The interface will take quite a while to get used to, as will learning how each process works and in which order to use them.
A training course, possibly on video, is likely to be a good idea when learning QuickBooks Pro for the first time. Sage 50 Premium Accounting is an alternative accounting package. Sage has a number of different versions of their accounting software. The Premium Accounting version offers business accounting support.
HomeBank is an interesting alternative for home and business accounts which is cross-platform with versions available for Windows, Mac and Linux. GNUCash is a third option, available for free, which is capable of full accounting functions and is also cross-platform.
